Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department are in pursuit of a suspect who is reportedly armed and dangerous.

While it is unclear if there are any other passengers in the vehicle, which appears to be a later model Toyota Rav 4, the chase was playing out on surface streets in Van Nuys shortly after the pursuit was initiated.

The left front tire, which had been unraveling, came off the rim just after 9 p.m. on Kester Avenue, sending sparks shooting out from beneath vehicle.

At one point on Van Nuys Boulevard, while managing to maneuver the car with a missing tire, the driver stuck his head out of the window and appeared to try and assess the damage to the tire, which earlier struck a police spike strip.
