A Fort Wayne-based nonprofit promoting inclusive civic engagement and diverse voter turnout has filed a public records request seeking written correspondence between the White House and Gov. Mike Braun’s office regarding mid-decade redistricting.

The request that Count US IN made Monday covers communications between Aug. 1 and Sept. 26. And it specifically asks for records that reference federally funded programs, initiatives, projects or pending waivers that may have been tied to Indiana’s compliance with a congressional map redraw.

The nonprofit has good reason to suspect the governor is feeling heat from the White House to redistrict. Nationally, Democrats need to gain three seats to take control of the House. And the party of the president typically loses seats in midterm elections.
