When actor and writer Michael Patrick tripped over on stage, he thought it was because of poorly fitting shoes. “But then it turned out it wasn’t – it was my right foot. It was dragging.”

These were some of the first indications that the then 32-year-old had motor neurone disease (MND) – a disease his father had died of when Patrick was just eight years old.
