A cinema in the western part of Canada’s Toronto city has cancelled screenings of Indian films following an attempt to set the theatre ablaze and shootout on its property in the past week.

Film.Ca Cinemas, the group on whose theatres the incidents happened, said the incidents happened overnight when the theatre was closed and no one was injured.

Film.Ca Cinemas said it would stop screenings of Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 and They Call Him OG following the fire and shooting.

“We understand these incidents may be tied to disputes within the South Asian film industry," it said in a statement. “We do not wish to bow to threats, but the situation has escalated to a point where we must take every precaution to protect our community."
