COVINA — You don’t make mistakes like Baldwin Park did in the final seconds of the first half and expect to win against teams like Northview.

But to Baldwin Park’s credit, it battled back in the second half before Northview pulled away again late for a 37-21 victory in Thursday’s Valle Vista League opener.

Northview improved to 5-1 and 1-0 while dropping Baldwin Park to 4-2 and 0-1.

“That second quarter massacre, it wasn’t (like) us,” Maxie said. “We were just given them points instead of making them earn it. They had a hard time earning points tonight whether they want to admit it or not.”
