Observing the changing colours of the leaves is one of the joys of autumn . There’s something magical about seeing trees transform from vivid green into every shade of yellow, orange and red.

It's a fleeting spectacle and one that can be taken for granted. Yet it’s worth taking the time to appreciate this phenomenon as before you know it the leaves will have all disappeared.

This year displays are set to be even more dramatic, according to Forestry England. Summer’s sunny days and warm temperatures have enabled trees to build up sugars in their leaves, which help to create those amazing autumn colours.

Now new research has found the best dates to experience the autumn leaves in Greater Manchester, before they disappear altogether.
