CROSS PLAINS, Wis. (WMTV) -This October, outdoor enthusiasts are encouraged to complete the Mammoth Hike Challenge as part of a month-long celebration of hiking and community.
Hosted by the Ice Age Trail Alliance , the annual challenge asks people to track 45 miles of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail and visit three Ice Age Trail communities during October.
You can accumulate the miles any way you want: solo, as a pair, or with a group. People can hike, backpack, walk; however you want to move on foot on the Ice Age National Scenic Trail.
As of Oct. 1 when registration opened more than 6,000 participants had signed up.
Registration is free and those who complete it will be awarded a limited-edition patch and certificate of achievement.
