WESTFIELD – Westfield State senior linebacker Budder Ferreira (Haverhill/ Whittier Voc. Tech.) earned conference honors this past week as he was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after captaining a dominant defensive effort from the Owls last Saturday.

Ferreira led Westfield State with eight tackles and finished with 1.5 sacks and three tackles for loss for a total of 30 yards on the defensive side. On special teams, he made one of the biggest plays of the game, blocking a punt with Worcester pinned in their own end zone, falling on the recovery for a touchdown to give the Owls a two-possession lead midway through the fourth quarter.
