FLORENCE, S.C. -- Florence One School District sees record increase in students leaving private schools to attend Florence 1 schools.

More than 126 students enrolled from local private schools while another 22 students came to Florence One from private schools across the state.

This record comes at a time of declining enrollment in public schools across South Carolina.

"The legislature has pushed for competition in education," said Florence 1 superintendent Richard O'Malley. "We have embraced their legislative agenda and I truly believe that if you put forth a good product, the people in your community will choose public education."
