Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg has announced new interim leadership for Jefferson County following the recent deaths of longtime Sheriff John Aubrey and County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw.

Deputy Mayor David James, a former member of the Louisville Metro Police Department chief and Metro Council president, has been appointed interim sheriff.
He will be the first Black sheriff in Jefferson County's history.
James said he feels “deep humility and a great sense of responsibility” in his new role.
