The Madras High Court on Friday rejected a clutch of petitions seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the stampede at actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam rally in Tamil Nadu’s Karur district, which left 41 persons dead, Live Law reported.

A second set of petitions before the Madurai bench of the court sought the framing of standard operating procedures for such meetings, Bar and Bench reported. A third group sought a grant of enhanced compensation.

A division bench of Justices M Dhandapani and M Jothiraman also disposed of the public interest litigations seeking the standard operating procedures for political rallies, observing that the principal bench of the court had already directed the state government to frame the guidelines.
