Local newspapers play a critical role in shaping civic discourse. Readers expect thoughtful, accurate, and even-handed coverage from those who hold a public platform. Recently, however, I have observed a pattern in certain Beacon Journal columns that raises questions about balance and the treatment of community leaders who are actively serving our children.

I respect the role of opinion writers in our civic life. Opinion pieces that are candid, well-sourced and transparent about perspective can move public conversation forward. What I cannot accept — and must publicly address — is coverage that consistently frames my service and record in ways that omit context, rely on inference rather than fact, or advance one side of a political contest without full disclosure.
