The annual four-day ‘Durga Puja’ festival, greatest public religious festival of the Hindus , passed off peacefully yesterday with the ritual immersion of the images of ‘Debi Durga’ and her retinue of lesser deities in the river Hawrah at the officially designated area of Dashami Ghat, west of Agartala . Since the immersion had to be rounded off within the span of the ‘Dashami Tithi’ the ritual immersion had actually started after 2-30 in the afternoon as enjoined by the almanac, specially for ‘Pujas’ that had been organised in households in compliance with all norms and rituals prescribed by the scripture.
