Filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan has finally addressed the wave of criticism surrounding reports that the family whose real-life ordeal inspired his latest film Homebound was compensated with just ₹10,000. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the acclaimed director issued a detailed statement clarifying the facts, insisting that the figure being circulated is “taken out of context" and does not reflect the actual support extended to the family.

Responding to the allegations, Ghaywan explained that the ₹10,000 in question was a personal gesture during his early research, not the official compensation.

“Some of you have expressed concerns about reports claiming that the family whose life inspired Homebound was compensated with a mere ₹10,000, a shamefully low amount," he wrote. “
