The city is asking area nonprofits to submit proposals to operate a new homeless services center that will offer a low-barrier 24/7 shelter and a safe parking area for people living in their vehicles.

The city is looking for services not currently provided in Allen County, a news release said.

"The vision of the Homeless Services Center is to offer comprehensive, low-barrier services for people experiencing homelessness that address immediate needs and pathways to permanent housing," the city said in a news release.

The city has two specific programs in mind. It is seeking a 24/7 low-barrier shelter primarily for men and women that will have access to food, showers, laundry, phone service and secure storage, among other amenities. The second program would be safe parking with designated
