The Indian government has released draft rules under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, setting out a detailed framework to govern India’s rapidly expanding online gaming industry. The rules, published by the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) , are now open for public consultation and mark the most comprehensive attempt yet to draw clear distinctions between casual play, e-sports and real-money gaming. The draft proposes the creation of the Online Gaming Authority of India (OGAI), a statutory body headquartered in the National Capital Region (NCR), which will act as the nodal regulator.
