BAY CITY, MI — Trial dates have been set for a Bay City man accused of strangling and dismembering a school custodian he met on a dating app.

Jury selection in Robert D. Tweedly Jr.’s trial is to begin Nov. 18 before Bay County Circuit Judge Joseph K. Sheeran. A backup date of Jan. 6 has also been scheduled.

Attorneys on either side of the case, though, say both dates are likely to be adjourned. Defense attorney James F. Piazza said he is still awaiting a transcript from an Aug. 26 preliminary examination and is planning to file several motions.

“November is totally unrealistic and probably January is unrealistic, as well,” Piazza said. He declined to go into specifics on the type of defense he plans to mount, apart from saying the prosecution won’t be able to prove their allegations be
