Who will be New Britain’s next mayor? Two candidates made their case to voters on Thursday evening during a debate to see who succeeds longtime mayor Erin Stewart.

In a packed room at the New Britain Public Library, two candidates presented their case to be city’s next mayor.

Stewart, the current mayor, is not on the ballot as she explores a run for governor.

Republican common council minority leader Sharon Beloin-Saavedra, who has Stewart’s endorsement, said she has the experience to follow the current mayor’s work.

“The next mayor needs to be able to pick up on day one and take us to the next level,” she said.
