100 years ago

The Vancouver Ice and Coal Company celebrated its 20th anniversary this week. Founded in 1905 by L. Doud, J.C. Smith, Frank Smith and Elmer J. Burdick, the company was established as an ice manufacturing plant. It expanded over the years, although it faced a setback from a devastating fire in 1918. It was rebuilt and continued to grow.

75 years ago
