GREENSBORO, N.C. — A Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools teacher says she was shocked to learn her car was stolen while she was more than 6,000 miles away on vacation.
Shania Kearney, a first-grade teacher at Mineral Springs Elementary, told WFMY News 2 her silver 2020 Kia Rio was taken overnight near Bridford Parkway.
“My family member was driving my car and parked it back at home and went inside the house, and when we came back out, my car was gone,” Kearney said. “I cried about it, but here we, here we are. I feel like I can’t catch a break.”
Kearney says she had just paid her registration, added new brakes and two new front tires, and even kept a dreamcatcher hanging from her rearview mirror to personalize the car. She told us the Rio also has scratches on the driver’s side door.
