EVANS, Ga. (WJBF)- A new program in Columbia County schools addresses a sensitive topic.

Law enforcement says Harlem 6th grader Aiden Lee took his own life last week at just 11 years old.

The family told NewsChannel 6 in a statement they learned from a close friend of Aiden that he committed suicide after experiencing bullying at school.

Kelly Tyson, a product of the school district, now serves in the student support department.

“I went to these schools and graduated back in 2007. I look at what these students are facing today, and I compare it to what I faced when I was in school, and it’s very different," said Tyson.

She says one of the biggest contributing factors to the challenges for students is social media.
