Chennai: In a landmark development, the Madras High Court has ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the Karur stampede that claimed 41 lives, while delivering a scathing indictment of Tamil Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader C. Joesph Vijay for his conduct. Justice Senthil Kumar, presiding over the case, strongly condemned the TVK leader for abandoning the scene and showing a “shocking lack of conscience” in the aftermath of the “man-made disaster.”
The court mandated that the SIT be led by IPS officer Asra Garg, the IG of the Northern Zone, and include the Karur District SP.
