As Congress grapples with federal spending negotiations and the looming expiration of enhanced health insurance subsidies, a new KFF Health Tracking Poll reveals that a broad majority of Americans want lawmakers to act.

According to the poll, 78% of adults say Congress should extend the enhanced premium tax credits (ePTCs) for people who purchase their own coverage on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplaces. That’s more than three times the share (22%) who say the credits should expire. Support cuts across partisan lines, with 92% of Democrats, 82% of independents, and even a majority of Republicans (59%) favoring an extension. Notably, 57% of Republicans who identify with the MAGA movement also back continuation of the subsidies.

Despite this consensus, public awareness remains low.
