A bear who survived a broken jaw has been named as the winner of Alaska's Fat Bear Week. Chunk broke his jaw in late spring. Despite the pain and hardship he experienced, he showcased his adaptability and resilience to remain one of the river's largest and most dominant bears - a feat that has now won him the Katmai National Park's top prize for rotund ursines. The much-loved competition, which pits bears in the U.S.'s northernmost state against each other in a public vote to decide who has put on the most weight ahead of their winter hibernation, has reached the semi-final stage. Now in its 11th edition, the celebration of brown bear resilience and survival is a single-elimination tournament.
