With just over two weeks to go until the municipal election, the Calgary Police Association has endorsed Sonya Sharp and Communities First candidates on behalf of its approximately 2,300 members — breaking from a decade-long practice of staying out of local politics.
"Policing is in a crisis in Calgary. We are understaffed," said John Orr, president of the union that represents Calgary police officers.
"Communities First's platform addresses those needs. It talks about hiring 500 new officers, as well as ensuring our officers are supported and doing their critical work."
