An area of low pressure that formed between South Florida and the Central Bahamas is forecast to bring periods of heavy rain and coastal flooding to the Gulf Coast region over the weekend.
The disturbance has a low chance of forming into a tropical storm or depression as it largely hovers between Florida and the Bahamas the next couple of days, forecasters with the National Hurricane Center in Miami said at 7 a.m. Friday.
Southeast Louisiana, particularly coastal communities like Venice and Golden Meadow, are likely to see ongoing showers starting Friday with flash flooding mainly likely on Sunday, forecasters with the National Weather Service said.
New Orleans, Slidell, LaPlace, and Houma are among the cities that face risk of flash flooding Sunday.
