One week after missing the state 10K record for women 45-49 at the Elizabeth River Run 10K, due to a course change that voided the USATF certification status required for state records, Powhatan’s Dana Hayden, 48, had “mission accomplished” at the seventh annual Democracy Dash 10K on Sept. 27 at Jamestown Island.
Dana finished in 38:25, breaking the previous mark by 37 seconds. The race was the 12th Colonial Road Runners Grand Prix race of 2025, and was organized by race director Michael Lavin and Preservation Virginia.
The previous state record for women 45-49 was 39:02 by Leisa Ensle, 45, of Virginia Beach in 2003. Hayden, who had the second-highest age grade for the victorious Colonial Road Runners team at ERR (behind only Adam Otstot), had run a 39:00 at ERR, despite running through
