Monster co-creator Ryan Murphy wanted to examine Hollywood and the public’s fascination with violence, and perhaps no figure is more appropriate than Ed Gein.

Gein, the killer and grave robber portrayed by Charlie Hunnam in the third season streaming on Netflix, and his gruesome crimes have inspired multiple fictional characters and movies .
