NEW YORK (WABC) -- The Trump administration has reinstated the $187 million in counterterrorism funding cut from the NYPD, following objections from top officials.

The threatened cuts were blasted by New York lawmakers, including Gov. Kathy Hochul, who made a direct appeal.

"From the moment these devastating cuts were announced, I made it clear that New York would not stand by while our law enforcement and counterterrorism operations were defunded," Hochul said.

She called it a victory for public safety and for every New Yorker who "depends on our brave law enforcement and first responders to keep our state secure."

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch also blasted the cuts earlier this week as a direct threat to the city's security.
