After losing an excessive force lawsuit against a Baldwin County deputy, the family of an unarmed Louisiana man killed in a suspected 2017 suicide-by-cop standoff will be on the hook to cover the defense costs — a figure totaling more than $23,000.
According to a list of costs filed in U.S. District Court earlier this week by the three-attorney defense team from Montgomery backing Deputy Lt. Matthew Hunady, the family of Jonathan Victor will be required to pay various filing expenses, transcript fees, travel costs, meals, and hotel rooms incurred during the weeks-long trial in Mobile.
