Two undefeated teams met in Meaford on Thursday, with the Georgian Bay Thunder coming out on top, 35-32 over the St. Mary’s Mustangs. Article content Article content Article content
The Mustangs and Thunder traded leads several times in the seesaw game, with Georgian Bay leading 21-13 at the half before St. Mary’s stormed back to tie the game, 27-27, heading into the fourth quarter.
From there, the Mustangs looked destined to win, powered by Lily Chambers’ strong second half on the glass and on the scoresheet.
The Mustangs led by as much as 32-27 in the final frame before the Thunder got going.
First, Olive Elkins drove the lane and cashed a layup, 32-29. Then, Izzy Spence got one of two free throws to drop, 32-30.
The Thunder’s defence suffocated St. Mary’s.
