Drivers passing a long a two-mile stretch of road in Clearwater will soon be traversing the Hulk Hogan Trail instead.

The span of road was named after the professional wrestling icon, whose real name was Terry Bollea, who hailed from the Clearwater area. Bollea died in July of a heart attack, following complications from a spinal surgery in May.

Gov. Ron DeSantis made the announcement Oct. 3 at Hogan’s Hangout, a bar in Clearwater. He spoke of growing up in the Tampa region and looking up to Hogan as a superstar.

Bollea “was proud to be a Floridian,” DeSantis said. The honor, he continued, “shows that his memory is going to live a long time.”

DeSantis had already dubbed Aug. 1 as Hulk Hogan Day, following his death. Bollea’s son, Nick, thanked DeSantis for the new name of the road.
