NEW YORK -- Following a difficult campaign that saw them miss the playoffs on the season’s final day, the Mets are shaking up their coaching staff.

Hitting coaches Jeremy Barnes and Eric Chavez and pitching coach Jeremy Hefner are among those who will not return, according to sources. The Mets are also not bringing back third-base coach Mike Sarbaugh and bench coach John Gibbons. Carlos Mendoza, who will return for his third season as manager, will enter next year with a markedly different staff.

The Mets finished tied for ninth in the Majors in runs per game this season and 18th in ERA.
