PROVIDENCE – Legislative leaders have laid the groundwork for a November "oversight hearing" on the failed – and now demolished – Washington Bridge by publicly disputing Gov. Dan McKee's contention that key people in his administration are not free to talk about what went wrong.
Until the state's lawsuit against 13 private companies that did work on the bridge goes to trial, McKee took the position that "state actors, including RIDOT employees cannot respond to questions from oversight committees about the failure of the Bridge without potentially jeopardizing the State's case and the recovery of millions of taxpayer dollars."
