The BC Conservation Officer Service was called to two unrelated grizzly bear attacks this week, including one that left a person seriously injured and requiring an air ambulance.
The first attack occurred on Sept. 29 in the Fort St. James area of central B.C.
In this instance, the BCCOS says a hunter was “charged by a grizzly sow with a cub and was bitten on the ankle.”
The grizzly then disengaged from the hunter, and the person was able to seek medical help on their own, according to the conservation service.
The BCCOS believes this attack was “defensive,” with the mother bear protecting its cub.
Another grizzly bear attack then occurred three days later, on Oct. 2, in the Fort Steele area of southeastern B.C.
