A.J. Greer hit Lightning star Brandon Hagel in the face on Thursday night, and on Friday morning, the league hit the Panthers forward in the wallet.
Greer was fined $2,213.54 — the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement — for roughing Hagel in Tampa Bay’s 5-2 win that featured 186 penalty minutes.
Behind the play in the first period of the preseason game, Greer cross-checked Hagel in the lower back. The Lightning forward dropped to a knee, and then Greer punched him twice in the face before a scrum broke out. Hagel left the game later in the period and didn’t return.
