Two women are dead and a man is in critical condition after a shooting Thursday along the southern end of Mississippi Highway 541, also known as Clem Road, according to the Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s Office.

WDAM reports that Chief Deputy Frank Riley said investigators believe a fight happened between an unidentified person and two women inside a car. The confrontation escalated and the suspect allegedly shot and killed both women. A second vehicle arrived during the incident and the gunman opened fire, critically injuring the driver.

The injured man was airlifted to a hospital in Jackson. The suspect fled before deputies arrived.
