DES MOINES, Iowa (KTIV/AP) — Immigration authorities have released information on the criminal history they’ve gathered on Ian Roberts, the former superintendent for Iowa’s largest school district.

Roberts was apprehended by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Friday, Sept. 26, during what was called a “targeted enforcement operation.” He was serving as the Des Moines Public Schools superintendent at the time of his apprehension.

ICE says when officials approached Roberts, they identified themselves, and Roberts sped off in the vehicle he was in. According to ICE, Roberts abandoned the vehicle and was found in a “brushy area” about 200 meters from where this started. The Iowa State Patrol helped ICE locate Roberts.
