SAGINAW, MI — A Saginaw County man has received a five-figure payout from the City of Saginaw after being arrested and jailed in a bizarre case of mistaken identity.

According to documents recently obtained by MLive through the Freedom of Information Act, Saginaw officials on April 4 signed an agreement to pay $15,000 to Samuel Oakla Bashans Jr. Bashans, 53, requested that amount in a March 30 claim against the city, alleging he was owed that for enduring a false arrest.

Bashans on Feb. 2 was driving to work at GM Powertrain in Bay City when a Bay City police officer pulled him over. The officer did not immediately tell Bashans why he stopped him, Bashans wrote in his complaint.
