The fire at the Chevron refinery in El Segundo is now out, and though the cause has not yet been determined, an investigation is underway.
The fire broke out at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday night, and Chevron confirmed it was extinguished shortly before noon Friday.
"Following Chevron’s active response along with support from the cities of El Segundo and Manhattan Beach emergency services, the fire is now out," Chevron said on its website. "As a result, Chevron has launched an internal investigation to determine the cause."
Chevron added that no injuries have been reported in connection with the fire, which some neighbors compared to an earthquake and others to a bomb detonating.
