CLEVELAND, Ohio — Grassroots organizer Nikki Hudson is now destined to join Cleveland City Council in January, now that her only opponent in Ward 11 has dropped out of the race.

Andrew Fontanarosa withdrew from the race on Sept. 19. His name will still appear on the ballot but votes for him won’t be counted. A reporter reached out to him for comment.

Each polling place will include notices that he is not still in the race and so will mail-in ballots once they’re sent out, according to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.

Hudson will need just one single valid vote to win. Though she said she still plans to host meet-and-greet events and knock on doors as if she were still running a campaign.

“Even though I’m unopposed, I’m still here to represent the residents,” Hudson said.
