STATEWIDE — With Election Day just over a month away, campaign signs are popping up across the state. One drawing attention is for Question 1 , a referendum that could bring significant changes to Maine’s election laws.

The measure asks voters whether to:

* Eliminate two days of absentee voting

* Prohibit requests for absentee ballots by phone or through family members

* End ongoing absentee voter status for seniors and people with disabilities

* Ban prepaid postage on absentee ballot return envelopes

* Limit the number of drop boxes

* Require voters to show certain photo identification before voting

Opponents argue the biggest impact would be on absentee voting.
