The Clay County Sheriff’s Office now has a safer way to transport inmates and arrestees who use wheelchairs.

“Wheelchair users can break the law, too, and now the Sheriff’s Office has a safe and effective way to transport them,” the sheriff’s office said in a social media post.

Before the van, deputies had to rent buses or vans to transport wheelchair users, which is a “fairly frequent occurrence,” the sheriff’s office said.

These inmates and arrestees often have to go to and from the hospital as well as the jail.
