Des Moines Public Schools has filed a lawsuit against the firm hired to facilitate the superintendent search that resulted in the hiring of Ian Roberts. Roberts was arrested and detained by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement last week and is now facing federal gun charges .
The board accepted Roberts' resignation and is now suing the search firm that identified and recommended Roberts for the superintendent role.
According to the lawsuit , the district claims breach of contract and negligence.
The litigation states that JG Consulting breached its contract with the district by "failing to properly vet Roberts and by referring Roberts as a candidate when he could not lawfully hold the position."
