Alex Bregman may have played his final game with the Boston Red Sox.

Following his first season with the team, Bregman can opt out of his remaining two years and re-enter free agency this offseason. The third baseman is widely expected to at least test his market value after batting .270/.360/.462 during his third All-Star campaign.

Bregman cemented himself as an indispensable member of the 2025 team, but a Red Sox reporter questioned the urgency to avoid an early split. MassLive’s Chris Cotillo responded to a tweet from MLB.com’s Ian Browne that noted Bregman’s struggles after he returned from a quad injury in July.
