Syracuse, NY - A 16-year-old Henninger High School student has been suspended after throwing a teacher onto the ground inside a school building, according to Syracuse police.

The incident occurred about 9 a.m. today, according to Syracuse City School District officials.

Two students were fighting when a third student started to walk toward the fight, said Kieran Coffey, speaking for Syracuse police. When a teacher put a hand on the student’s shoulder, the student then “threw the teacher to the ground,” Coffey said.

City school officials said the staff member was injured and went to the hospital on their own to be evaluated but was not admitted.

A “stay in place” went into effect for students and staff at the school while the situation was “de-escalated,” the district said.
