Arthur Jones, who played for the NFL's Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts and Washington Redskins (now Commanders), died at the age of 39. The Ravens announced the news on Friday. No information was provided on the cause of his death at the time.

According to Steve Infanti of News Channel 9 in Syracuse, N.Y., an Onondaga County (N.Y.) Sheriff's spokesperson said Jones' pacemaker went off, sending a signal to his doctor. By the time EMS arrived at his home, Jones, who had a pre-existing heart condition, was already dead.

Jones was just a two-star recruit from Rochester, N.Y., and became a fifth-round pick of the Ravens out of Syracuse in 2010, but developed into a top defensive lineman, winning a Super Bowl and signing with the Colts as a free agent in 2014, where he played for two years. Jones spent one year with the Redskins in 2017.

"We are terribly saddened to learn of Arthur Jones' sudden passing," the Ravens said in a statement. "Arthur's presence was a gift to everyone he encountered. His big, bright smile, infectious energy and eternal positivity created a presence that continuously uplifted others.

"We send our deepest condolences to the Jones family and all who loved Arthur."

A 2014 IndyStar story on Jones highlighted how important his family was to him, including his sons Art IV, then 4, and Skylar, 1.

"I see them playing and wrestling and kissing and singing," Camille, Jones' wife, said in a phone interview at the time. "I'm so proud because I see another generation coming up the right way."

Jones also had a love of dogs with five Spanish Mastiffs at the time: Samson, Achilles, Athena, Pumpkin and Red. He frequently gave time to animal shelters in his career. His brother, Jon Jones, was a UFC heavyweight champion and Chandler Jones played in the NFL as well.

The UFC acknowledged Arthur's death with a message on social media:

"UFC is saddened to hear about the passing of Arthur Jones. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, and loved ones."
