LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Early October is often the peak of annual bird migrations in the state of Michigan.
While it doesn’t feel like fall just yet, we are still seeing the bird migration across the area.
“So, the ones that are moving right now are the majority of your insect eaters,” says Lisa Duke, the Sanctuary Grounds Manager at the W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary, just east of Gull Lake in Augusta.
“We’re in warbler migration, your threshes are moving, a lot more songbirds. If anyone feeds Baltimore Orioles in your backyard, they’re gone; they’ve already left; they’re out.”
Lisa has worked for more than 13 years at the sanctuary, and she tells me that even the hardier species need to adjust their migration as the weather dictates.
