LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - State Auditor Allison Ball said her office expects to complete its special investigation into Fayette County Public Schools by spring 2026, moving up the timeline from initial estimates of a full year.

Ball made the comments during an interview with Bill Bryant on Kentucky Newsmakers , providing the first concrete timeline for the high-profile examination of the district’s finances.

“My goal is to get this district on a financially strong footing, to fix the problems that exist. Find out what’s going on, and get them in good shape for the future,” said Auditor Ball.

Investigation sparked by tax increase request

Ball said her office began focusing on FCPS when district administrators started discussing raising taxes.

“That was absolutely a red flag,” Ball said
