SULLIVAN’S ISLAND, S.C. (WCSC) - A morning walk on Sullivan’s Island turned into an unexpected rescue after a brown pelican was found struggling with an injured wing.

Near Station 25, Live 5’s anchor and reporter Justin Kollar says he and his wife spotted the bird and quickly realized it needed help. Unsure what to do, they called Sullivan’s Island’s non-emergency dispatch number.

Within a few minutes, two Sullivan’s Island police officers arrived in a beach utility vehicle, where they safely wrangled the bird and loaded it into the vehicle for transport.

The officers said the pelican was then turned over to the proper wildlife authorities, where it is expected to make a full recovery.
